Spring Concert to Feature Concerto Competition Winning Violinist Alison Shively as Soloist
May 18, 2016—Fairfield, Conn.— Wrapping up an exciting 55th anniversary year, Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras will be celebrating spring with two seasonal concerts.
Taking place first on May 21st is GBYO’s Spring Concert, an annual event in which all ensembles perform. In addition to Mozart, Shostakovich, and Tchaikovsky, the audience will enjoy the big band sound of Jazz Ensemble performing “Over the Rainbow” and other classics; the band classic “American Salute” from the GBYO Wind Ensemble; and “Highlights from Jurassic Park.”
Of special note, 15-year-old Alison Shively, the winner of the 2017 GBYO Concerto Competition, is featured soloist in the Sibelius Violin Concerto with accompaniment by the 95-piece Principal Orchestra.
Alison is honored to perform her favorite concerto with GBYO. “This is a memory of a lifetime.” she said. “I’ve had great fun preparing privately and with the orchestra. It has been an exceptional learning experience, and I hope everyone enjoys the performance!”
